Nova Scotia Salesperson Licensing Course 2026: Your Complete Guide
Start your real estate career in Nova Scotia with the NSREC-approved Salesperson Licensing Course. Choose between classroom or online learning options.
What is the Salesperson Licensing Course?
The Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission (NSREC) introduced an enhanced Salesperson Licensing Course (SLC) in August 2024 to elevate education standards and ensure higher levels of knowledge and professionalism in the real estate industry.
This comprehensive course was developed after reviewing licensing education from other Canadian provinces, gathering industry feedback, and consulting with the NSREC’s Education Committee and the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS (NSAR) Education Department.
The new SLC provides more extensive material on practical aspects of real estate trading, better preparing future licensees for successful careers in Nova Scotia’s real estate market.

English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR) – Mandatory
IMPORTANT: Effective September 1, 2025, all students registering for the Salesperson Licensing Course must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR) before enrolling. There are no exceptions.
Why is ELPR Required?
Contracts and standard forms in Nova Scotia are in English. Real estate practitioners require strong language proficiency skills for verbal and written communication with clients and other professionals. The ELPR ensures all licensees can provide competent, professional service.
How to Meet the ELPR
You must achieve a Level 7 or higher on all four components of the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program – General (CELPIP-G) test:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
- Listening
All four scores must appear on the same test score report. Scores from multiple test attempts cannot be combined.
ELPR Process
- Register for and take the CELPIP-G test (you are responsible for registration and test fees)
- Receive your score report from Paragon Testing
- Upload your score report PDF during the SLC course registration process
Note: You must meet the ELPR before you can register for the Salesperson Licensing Course. Plan ahead and allow sufficient time for testing and receiving results.
